CYCLING JUDGE HURT.
Knocked Down by Rider at Finish of Race. Per Press Association. GISBORNE, February 16. A mishap at the finish of a cycling event at an athletic meeting last evening resulted in one of the judges, Mr Reg Humphreys, being admitted to hospital with injuries to his ribs and collarbone. In a great finish to the race, three competitors were bunched. One in the rear attempted to come up on the outside, but, in the strain of the effort, he swerved slightly. With only two yards to go a crash among the competitors seemed inevitable, but the rear cyclist of the three swerved from the track into the officials. Mr Humphreys was struck heavily on the chest. The rider was thrown, and, falling on the injured official, was badly shaken but not injured. Mr Humphreys, after receiving medical attention, was taken to thd hospital.
