General inference—The first part of a depression crossed the southern portion of the South Island last night, but the main part is still to come. An anticyclone covers south-eastern Australia. Forecast—Moderate to fresh northerly winds, backing this evening to south-west. Weather: Fair and warm at first but later clouding over and scattered rains developing; temperatures cooler to-morrow. Seas: Moderate.
