WOOL PRICES.

Quieter Tone at Wellington Sale. WITHDRAWALS FREQUENT. Per Preps Association. WELLINGTON, February 15. The wcbl sale opened with rather a subdued tone. A lower range of prices was expected as compared with the January rates and the market was quieter. Withdrawals were rather frequent. There was a full attendance of buyers and a good assembly in the public gallery. The'sale proceeded rather slowly at first, but speeded up later. The first catalogue was 3949 bales. The Continental buyers were active. Merino made up to lSd. but insufficient was offered to constitute a market. Fine cross-bred was in fair demand at a lower range of prices compared with January. Medium and coarse crossbred were wanted at moderate prices. There was a good demand for lambs and also pieces. France appeared to be eager for pieces and bellies. Bradford were good buyers within narrow limits. The sale was rather dragging in the demand for finer wools and lambs. Other sorts sold at rather lower values than in January. The sale continued with rather slow bidding and occasional passings. It was obvious that buyers’ limits were restricted as compared with the January sale. Clips representative of quite good lines sold as follows:—A A hoggets, 13id; A hoggets, llid; B hoggets, Bid; A A, 13d; A, 10id; B, 9d; C, lOd; necks, 12id to 14id; first pieces, 9d to 10d; bellies, 9d; locks. 6d; lambs, 13id to loid. Lincolns sold at 7id to 9id, and half-breds from 13d to 19fd.
