Corps of Commissionaires.

Ihe New Zealand Corps of Commissionaires has been established on firm foundations since the inception of the new body on October IS last, when the first member was placed in employment, states the Auckland Star.” The corps now consists of fifteen men, suitably uniformed, and an additional fifty members who are ready to don uniforms as the demands for their services warrant. All the men have served in some branch of his Majesty’s forces, and their characters, before and since their discharge from the services, have been thoroughly investigated. At present the majority of the men are employed on relief work in the city and suburbs, and, through the corps, have been performing -work of a casual nature provided by leading business concerns in the city. Several of the commissionaires, however, are in permanent uniformed Employment. It is not the intention of the corps to displace men already employed, but rather to create fresh avenues of employment and also to eradicate that element who are at present “ holding down two jobs.”
