THRILLER AND DRAMA.

“ The Crooked Circle ” and “ Disgraced!”

“ Baroud ” and “ The Mayor of Hell ’ will be screened finally to-morrow night at the Liberty Theatre.

The new double-feature programme at the Liberty Theatre on Saturday will be headed by “ The Crooked Circle ”, a mystery-comedy starring Zasu Pitts and James Gleason. The supporting film will be a drama, “.Disgraced!” In “The Crooked Circle,” Zasu Pitts pairs with James Gleason in providing a continuous comedy interest for relief in a real ghost thriller. The two comedy specialists mentioned have several very able assistants in creating the fun and the thrills, which are so adeptly mingled as to make the picture a notable one. The story follows the lines of all the best mystery narratives in keeping the onlooker partly informed throughout a long series of strange and unexpected happenings of just enough to pique his interest and keep him guessing more or less incorrectly. It concerns the fortunes of Brand Osborne (Ben Lyon), a wealthy criminologist, who marries Thelma Parker (Irene Purcell) after a brief acquaintance, and -when about to abandon his connection with an amateur detective ring in favour of a Hindu Yogi named Yoganda (C. Henry Gordon), finds himself involves in a series of strange, creepy and criminal occurrences, which seem to point to his bride-to-be as a crook. The story of a woman's losing battle for vindication of the ultramodern code forms the entirel}’- fresh and interesting theme of “ Disgraced! ” starring Helen Twelvetrees. “ Disgraced ! ” is the story of a girl who yields everything to the man she loves, only to find that he considers her purely a casual interest.
