DOLLFUSS GUILTY.
Brutal Government Assailed by “ Manchester Guardian.” SOCIALISTS' FIXE RECORD. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received February 15, 9.45 a.m.) LONDON, February 14. “ Ihe Dollfuss Government, by its br vital suppression of the Socialists amid the horrors of modern street fighting, has forfeited all claim to sympathy,” declares
the “ Manchester Guardian” in a leading article. “It is impossible to accept the Government’s declaration placing the guilt of the catastrophe on the Socialists, who, on the contrary, were the Government’s best instrument against the Nazis for the defence of Austrian
independence. Instead, Dr Dollfuss has relied on the Heimwehr, who have coquetted with the Nazis and may do so again. The Austrian Socialists had a fine record during their fifteen years of Government of Vienna, which was made a model for social services.” The paper prophesies the early downfall of the Government, similar to Captain von Papen’s disappearance before the Nazis.
