MR SAVAGE’S TOUR.
Big Programme for South
Island Visit.
A South Island tour, which will include the \Ve*st Coast and most of thfe main- centres’ as fhr as Bluff will be undertaken by Mr M. J. Savage, leader of tne Opposition, opening at Christchurch on Wednesday, February 21. On that day Mr Savage will be given a civic reception and next morning he will leave with Mr P. C. Webb, M.P., to carry out the West Coast programme.
Mr Savage will be engaged on the West Coast until March 4 and his itinerary will include meetings at Greymouth, Hokitika, Dobson, Blackball, Westport, Karamea, Millefton, Denniston and Runanga. Mr Webb and Mr J. O’Brien, M.P., will also speak at several of the meetings.
Mr Savage’s programme on his return from the West Coast will be as follows:—Ashburton, March 5; Timaru, March 6: Waimate, March 7; and Waitaki Hydro, March 8. He will leave W aitaki Hydro on March 9 for Dunedin, where he will remain until March 14. His activities in Dunedin will include visits to important industries, consultations with various groups regarding their problems and policies, and social engagements. Mr Savage will speak at Dunedin on March 13, and will then lesume his tour southward for the following meetings:—Milton. March 14; Balclutha, March 15; Gore, March 16; Balfour, March 17; Ohai, March 19; Riverton, March 20; Invercargill, March 21; Bluff, March 22; Winton, March 26. It is uncertain at present whether Mr Savage will return north via Lake Wakatipu or via Dunedin. In the latter case he will speak at Oamaru on March 28. and will return to Christchurch on or about Good Friday, March 20. He will attend the Labour Party’s annual conference, which is to be held in Christchurch during Easter Week.
