PENALTY ON PRIESTS.
Must Pay Bachelor Tax in Catalonia, Spain. PROTEST DISREGARDED. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received February 15, noon.) LONDON, February 14. The Barcelona correspondent of “The Times” states that all Catholic priests in Catalonia have been subjected to the bachelor tax, despite a protest from the Vicar-General at Tarragona that the penalty should not be imposed on those vowed to celibacy, especially as priests in the remainder of Spain are exempt.
