NEW TENNIS COURTS.
Patron’s Gift to Willoughby Club. Two hard courts which have been laid down for the Willoughby Tennis Club at Woodgrove, near Hawarden, will be opened on Saturday afternoon by the patron, Mr James O’Carroll, on whose property the courts have been established. An invitation was sent to the Prime Minister to perform the opening ceremony, but Mr Forbes advised yesterday that he much regretted his inability to attend, as official duties kept him in Wellington. The two courts will be opened free of debt. Mr O’Carroll, in addition to making a gift of the land, presented the club with a substantial cheque, and the honorary secretary (Mr W. T. Neeve) enlisted the support of the whole district to ensure the necessary financial support. An anonymous donor has promised to build a pavilion for the use of the club.
It is expected that there will be a large gathering of residents at the ceremony on Saturday afternoon.
