Covering in all 437 miles, apart from city calls, two St John ambulances had a busy time yesterday. Six longdistance calls to the country were answered.

The first of these was to Oxford, the outward and inward trip accounting for 77 miles on the speedometer. Then came calls to Rakaia (754 miles), Waikari (97£ miles), Lincoln (30 miles) and Lyttelton (29J miles). To cap it all, the record call was that answered at Lees Valley, where the ambulance covered 127 i miles in bringing an injured settler to the Christchurch Hos pital.
