THE FLOWER GARDEN. Sow Iceland Poppies and Wallflowers. Prepare ground for Winter Sweet Peas. Hoe Asters, Zinnias, etc. Dahlias and Chrysanthemums should be staked, tied and mulched. If caterpillars appear, lose no time in applying arsenate of lead. Arsenate of lead powder one part, flower* of sulphur ten parts makes a good dust spray for any flowers or vegetables. Cut off all spent flowers, remove any seed pods that are not required for seed purposes, and disbud Dahlias. Lift Narcissi. Clean, grade and replant bulbs. Lift and replant Belladonna Lilies. Plant Madonna Lilies. Now is the time to layer Carnations. Cuttings of Geraniums, Pelargoniums and Hydrangeas should now be planted. Prepare for planting any spring flowering bulbs. THE GREENHOUSE. Prick off Primulas and pot on the earlier batches. A sowing of Herbaceous Calceolarias can be made. Early sowings should be handled carefully. Attend to watering and ventilation. Fumigate at first signs of an insect pest. Cyclamen bulbs can be repotted. Pot up Lachenalias and Freesias. THE VEGETABLE GARDEN. Sow Cabbage and Cauliflower. Plantings can be made when conditions are favourable. Disbud and spray Tomatoes. Keep plants securely tied to supports. Sow Lettuce and Radish to suit requirements. Celery can be planted. The early crops should have side shoots removed. Put a loose band of raffia around plant to hold leaves together. Thin and hoe crops as they require it. ’ Spray Cabbage, etc., to prevent fly. A solution of 1-100 of coal tar disinfectant is very good for this purpose. Weed Asparagus bed and keep the surface loose. Plaint Leeks or Cabbage required for winter use. Sow Spinach or Silver Beet. 1
