OFFICER WARNED.
Sequel to Incident at Election. The decision of the Public Service Commissioner in the case in which a junior officer of the Public Trust Office was charged with a breach of the Public Service regulations as a result of his conduct at a meeting addressed by the Right Hon J. G. Coates, then Acting-Prime Minister, in the Lyttelton by-election campaign, has now been communicated to the officer concerned. The officer has been censured for his conduct and warned that should there be a repetition of it his continued employment in the Public Service will not be possible. The case was heard before a special Court of Inquiry set up under thp Public Service regulations, and Mr IT. A. Young, S.M., presided. A large number of witnesses were heard, the Mayor of Lyttelton and two ex-Mayors giving evidence on behalf of the officer.
