“NIGHT FLIGHT” CUP.
Model Aeroplane Flyers Contest Trophy. A good crowd of model aeroplane flyers turned out in North Hagley Park this afternoon to contest the Clark Gable Silver Cup, presented by the management of the Majestic Theatre in connection with the screening of the film “ Night Flight.” In spite of there being an unfavourable and gusty wind, which caused a number of breakages and crashes, some unusually good flights were made. Master Murray Cook, the youngest competitor, who took second place in the contest, was th 6 unluckiest flyer, for at the end of his third attempt his plane landed in the lake and? was badly pulped. Mr A. J. Dacombe, before the official flying began, lost his plane after a trial flight. When it had been up for ten minutes it was lost to sight over Riccarton. There were two prizes of seats at the Majestic Theatre, besides the silver cup. The result (average duration of three flights) was:— C. Savage, 61 sec 1 Murray Cook, 53sec 2 E. Ostpond-Smlth, 4 9sec 3
