Don Chenault went into the back with a big lead. Gay Paree moved into third place after going three and a half furlongs, when he broke. Don Chenault went on to win easily from Biddy Parrish, who came home well. Cannonball was a poor third. Durham Handicap. The Durham Handicap, the saddle event, provided a fine contest. Taxpayer made a break at the start but soon got going. Editor undertook the pacemaking and led past the stand from Sir Guy, Taxpayer, Chef, Probationer, Nelson de Oro, Ciro and Gay Gordon. Editor continued to make play with Sir Guy, Probationer and Chef all in close attendance. Editor, Taxpayer and Probationer came into the straight together. Taxpayer, £329 10s, and Probationer £215 10s, were the favourites. A New Record. Probationer’s time, 2min Bsec. is a record for New Zealand for a mile saddle event. The previous best was 2min 8 l-ssec by 'Reporter on January 1 at Addington. Midsummer Handicap The struggle for favouritism in the Midsummer Handicap was very keen between Gold Tinge, Royal Again, Royal Silk and Sunny Morn. Gold Tinge, £333 10s, and Royal Again, £330 10s, just gained the distinction. None of the quartet proved equal to winning. The victor was Sir Guy, ninth favourite, carrying only £9l. Waress, second choice with £270, failed to go away. Reporter led off but passing the stand the first time, Chenwood was in front, followed by Arabond, Reporter,

Taxpayer, Major Lind and Great Author. In the same order, these still comprised the front division half way. Avernus improved his position, and with a round to go, he was fifth to Chenwood, Arabond, Reporter and Taxpayer. The last-named and Arabond weakened going along the back. Chenwood led into the straight from Reporter, Major Lind and Avernus. Chenwood and Reporter fought out the finish, Chenwood winning by three lengths with Avernus two lengths away. Manoeuvre was fourth. Cashmere Handicap. Durbar Lodge, which had scored earlier with Arethusa, completed a winning double in the Cashmere Handicap with First Wrack. Passing the stand the order of the leaders was Cannonball, Garner, First Wrack, Standby and Fifa. Worthy Queen moved up closer, but the leading division was the same at the halfmile. Cannonball and Garner led into the straight from First Wrack, Fifa and Worthy Queen. Cannonball and Garner failed badly in the run home and First Wrack assumed charge. Worthy Queen came at her, but tired near the post, and First Whack won by two lengths. Worthy Queen, Fifa and Standby were separated by heads only. Ijiverpool Handicap. Harold Denver, £404 10s, and Young Frank £333, were the popular selections for the Liverpool Handicap. Royal Serene and Worthy King failed to go away. Elite Bingen led early from Royal Chenault. Halfway, Harold Denver was in the lead, and with a round to go, he was followed by Guy Denver, Royal Chenault, Ratloc, Erin’s Princess, Accras and Elite Bingen. Roddy, who began very smartly, had a good lead early from Indianapolis, with Gold Country and Roval Silk next. With a round to go, Roddy led from Indianapolis and Kingcraft. Roddy was only half a length in front of Indianapolis entering the back, with Kingcraft, Gold Country and Royal Silk close up. Indianapolis took charge three furlongs from home and drew away.
