DISPUTE SETTLED.
Dr Thacker and the Port Christchurch League. The disagreement between Dr H. T. J. Thacker and the executive of the Port Christchurch League has been settled as the result of a deputation which waited on the doctor yesterday afternoon with a request that he should not withdraw from the executive. Dr Thacker agreed to withdraw his resignation. The trouble arose at the general meeting of the league on August 22 last, when Dr Thacker proposed that the league should endorse Mr E. L .Hills’s candidature for the Lyttelton seat as a supporter of the league. Members raised the point that the league was non-political and the doctor’s motion was defeated. Dr Thacker then resigned but maintained that the defeat of the motion was not his reason for doing so. The executive of the league appointed Messrs S. W. Richardson, S.M'Alister and W. J. Fletcher to wait on Dr Thacker, and after they had put their views before him Dr Thacker agreed to withdraw unreservedly his resignation, and he signified his intention of attending the next meeting of the executive as chairman, a position he held at the time of the disagreement.
