MEASLES OUTBREAK.
Special Precautions Against Epidemic. Special precautions are being taken by the health and education authorities in Christchurc.l against the possibility of an epidemic of measles in Christchurch in the autumn. Already scattered cases have been noticed in the city and suburbs and in a number of the country districts, and the disease is now beginning to assume epidemic proportions. It is likely, however, that it will be some time before it reaches the full epidemic stage. Dr E. Baker M’Laglen, School Medical Officer in Christchurch, has submitted a report to the Education Board pointing out that Auckland, Wellington and Dunedin have already had epidemics of measles, and that Christchurch is unlikely to escape. She has conferred on the subject with the Medical Officer of Health (Dr T. Fletcher Telford) and the assistant officer (Colonel F. W. W. Dawson). A recommendation has been made to the Education Board that all headmasters should be asked to send home from school any child that developed an acute cold, especially if it was accompanied by running from and soreness of the eyes, and to exclude the child from school until diagnosis proved the case to be other than measles.
