ANOTHER PETITION.
Re-employment of Tram Men Asked. “ STRUCK ON PRINCIPLE.” Direct and speedy action by the Christchurch Tramway Board for the re-employment of all employees who lost their positions owing to the strike and who are desirous of re-entering the service is urged by a petition that has been placed in circulation in the city. It points out that over 50 per cent of the men who went out on strike did so on a principle of unionism. The petition, which has been promoted by an ex-employee of the Tramway Board, now in business on his own, has already received strong support. It will be presented at the coming meeting of the Ex-tramway Employees’ Association, the members of which will I be asked to support it and to assist in its circulation. It was stated this morning that no effort was being made by the promoters td counter the petition for the restoration of the free labourers to seniority.
