Sudden Death of Lobum
Postmistress.
Mrs Catherine Kennedy, who died suddenly at Rangiora, was in her sixtyseventh year. She was the second daughter of Mrs J 03 r ce and the late Mr Thomas Joyce, of Greenfields, North Loburn, where she was born. She married the late Mr Murtagh Kennedy, J.P., in 1888, and the early years of her married life were spent in the Okuku district. For the last twenty years she had been post mistress at Loburn. The deceased lady had a wide circle of friends and letters and telegrams of sympathy from all parts of New Zealand, bore testimony to the esteem in which she was held. She was a staunch member of the Roman Catholic Church and was an undefatigable church worker. Mr Kennedy died in 1922 and was predeceased by one son. The surviving members of the family are: Mrs H Coulter (Orari Bridge), Mrs T. Donnelly (Riccarton), Misses Mary Kennedy (Wellington), Margaret and Adelaide Kennedy (Christchurch). Messrs Alex Kennedy (Loburn), D. H. Kennedy (New Brighton), J. A. Kennedy (Christchurch) and David Kennedy (Beaumont, Otago). There are five grandchildren. Mrs Kennedy’s mother who is ninety-three years of age, resides at Rangiora. The funeral, which took place at the Roman Catholic Cemetery at Loburn on Wednesday, was largely attended. Requiem Mass was celebrated by the Rev Father Leen, assisted by the Rev Fathers Timoney and Kilgour. The Rev Father M’Kay was also present. The pall-bearers were Messrs A. Kennedy, D. Kennedy T. B. J. Donnelly, 11. Coulter, W. J. Heaphv and K. Joyce. The many wreaths sent included those from the following: Colonel and Mrs E. B. Millton, Mr and Mrs J. Brady and family, Mr and Mrs G. T. Croft and family, Mr and Mrs Galletly and family. Mr and Mrs J. Henry and family, Mr and Mrs Middlebrook, Mr and''Mrs Drummond Bailey, C. D. Bailey and M. D. Bailey. Mr and Mrs Kempthorne, Mr and Mrs A. V. Kerr. Mr and Mrs John O’Carroll, staff Sydenham School, Mr and Mrs Doyle, Mr and Mrs Tasman Pulley and Mr and Mrs George Brady and family Mr and Mr.- A. S. Barker and family Mr and Mrs Montgomery and family, Carbory family. ,
