In the Selby Handicap, Golden Eagle, Kuini and Manna's Son were the favourites. Gala Day was smartest away, and as they went past the stands the first time he was well clear of Kuini, Manna’s Son, Golden Eagle, Otara and Autumn Lu. There was no change on the final circuit until the back was reached, where Kuini went up quickly and was close to Gala Day. Then came Otara, Goldenj Eagle and Autqmn Lu. Gala Day hit the straight first, followed by Kuini, Golden Eagle, Manna’s Son and Autumn Lu. In a rattling finish Kuini prevailed by a long head from Golden Eagle, who defeated Gala Day by half a head. Manna’s Son was fourth, and then came Autumn Lu, Indolent and Otara. December Handicap. In the December Handicap Margaret Chenault was the best backed. Jester was the early leader, and on the second circuit Jester and Kia Kaha were on terms from Rare Rev, Peter Junior, Margaret Chenault and Nelson Luvan. Going along the back stretch, Rare Rey ran to the front, being a head to the good of Kia Kaha, Margaret Chenault (who was going very speedily), Jester and Peter Junior. Rare Rey had command at the straight entrance from Margaret Chenault, Jester, Nellota and Nelson Luvan. In the run to the judge, Rare Rey held on long enough to prevail by a head from Margaret Chenault, with Ringtrue three lengths further away. Jester filled fourth berth, and Nellota, Our Summer and Peter Junior were next.
