Plunket Shield Match at Wellington. VIVIAN BOWLS WELL. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, December 27. Auckland beat Wellington easily in the Plunket Shield match. Wellington made 190 runs in their second innings. Misty rain was falling, with a strong northerly, for the last day’s play. The home team’s position was made more hopeless when Lamason was caught in the slips off C-leverley’s second ball. 151 —7—4. Freeman started well and Crook placed Cleverley nicely to leg twice, but Matheson’s slower ball soon found the Nelson boy’s stumps. 160—8—4. A friendly match between Wellington colts and a team representing the Ashburton Cricket Association was begun this morning on the Ashburton Domain in dull, threatening weather. The pitch was inclined to be a little- heavy as a result of rain early this morning. Wellington won the toss and batted. H. Mason and E. Bezzant were sent in. After one over, in which Mason scored one run. play ceased because of the rain, but if the weather should clear the match will be resumed at two o’clock. Hawke Cup Match. Per Presti As'.-ociatJon. NELSON, December 27. In the Hawke Cup match, at lunch Nelson had made 339 for eight (Morgan not out 132, Stewart 24, ltalfe not out 32). This was a deficit of 45 with two wickets in hand.
