NEW RADIO SERVICE.
3YL to Come on the Air on January 1. Radio station 3YL, which is to give Christchurch listeners an alternative service to station 3YA, will come on the air on January 1. The new- station will replace 3ZC, which was recently purchased by the New Zealand Radio Broadcasting Board, and which is to close down on December 30. Station 3YL will broadcast on 250 metres, the wave-length at present utilised by 3ZC. It will use the 500-watt transmitter which was formerly used at 3YA, thus giving twice the power at present used by 3ZC.
