There was little change until approaching the mile post, where Great Wood and Mataunga improved their positions. Kotinga was first into the straight, being closely j followed by Great Wood, Chudleigh and Mataunga. The favourite, Young Travis, won the Improvers’ Handicap after being carefully handled by his trainer, J. J. Kennerley. He began well and was tucked in behind the leaders until the straight was reached, where he was taken to The outside and issued his challenge. He responded gamely and won by a length. When a mile had been covered, Margaret Chenault was in second place, and she went a good race to secure second money. In the early stages, Angelus, Attorney, Red Flier, Eddystone, Young Travis, Tricliff, Llewellyn’s Pride and Happi were well placed. Going along the back.
