The year 1836 was monumental in the history of aviation. The Duke Charles of Brunswick then made his first balloon flight, accompanied by Mrs Grahame. Starting at Bayswater, they drifted serenely over Essex. When they wanted to descend, Mrs Grahame fouled the controls, and broke a leg.
