To-day’s Recipe. As seen from the Road J.EAL interest is shown by road and pathway users wherever a view of front gardens is possible. It is not that all the hidden gardens are so by owner’s choice, because the fashion of some years ago decreed high fences/ and the best has to be made of the position. It is interesting to notice that the Christchurch Beautifying Association is promoting a competition on the lines of the popular Papanui one, and it is safe to say that the announcement will find hearty support. There are any number of desirable gardens eligible, for the majority of recently built residences are favouring the low front fence. This for effect, must carry a well kept garden or pay the penalty of untidiness. It is so much more interesting to admire the beauties from the roadside than to merely stroll along a fenced-off pathway. There is some educative value in seeing how our neighbours manage their front garden possibilities. ANNUAL BREAK-UP.
