Gatherings Held in Town and Suburbs. PARTY AT RICCARTON. Many guests were entertained on Thursday evening by Mr and Mrs G. Duder, Peverel Street, Riccarton, in honour of the coming-of-age of their youngest daughter, Merryl. The Clarence Road Methodist schoolroom was effectively decorated in scarlet and white streamers and sweet peas for the occasion. The guest of the evening wore an attractive frock of scarlet crepe de chine with a beige lace collar. A beautifully iced two-tiered cake was cut. The Rev H. Ryan proposed Miss Duder’s toast, to which she suitably replied. Mr Cliff Duder was M.C. Games and competitions were held, and musical items were given by Misses Irene Hill, E. Jackson, Edna Odell and Mr R. E. James. Those present included:—Mesdames G. Duder, R. Bibby, H. Ryan, E. Pilling, J. Prattley, W. House, E. Bride-elect Honoured. In honour of Miss Violet Tomes, who is to be married shortly, Mrs T. Troon entertained a number of friends at a kitchen evening at her home recently when an enjoyable time was spent m games and dancing. Miss Tomes received many useful gifts. Music was supplied by Mr and Mrs S. Troon and Mr W. Bettle, and items were given by Messrs P. Pitt and A. Lovett. . Those present included: Mesdames E. Troon, J. Boon, M. Gregg, L. Troon, R. At the invitation of Miss Constance Church, many parents and friends assembled recently in the Methodist Hall, Papanui, when a musical programme was contributed by pupils of the singing classes as follows:—Part songs and choruses by the choir; solos, Misses Shona Watson, Lorna Winter, Helen Moffat, M. Moffat. Letty Lammis, Rosamond Eggleston, Zena Tomkies, Jean Jones, Eileen Goodall, Jean M’Cracken, Peggy Goodall, Lea Winder, Margaret Burrell, Eunice Percasky, Annette M’Aloon, Edna O’Callaghan, Pat Oles, Gloria Musson, Dawn Taylor, Mary Parrish, P. Barnard, Masters Noel Winder and Billie Musson; trio, Misses Pat Oles, E. Percasky, D. Hutcheson; duets in character, Misses Z. Tomkies and R. Eggleston Lea Winder, and Master Noel Winder; quartette, M. Norton, D. Burke, E. Joyce, M. Rossiter; recitation R. Eggleston; pianoforte solos, Miss B. Emmett. At the conclusion of the programme afternoon tea was served.
