Richard 111. Murdered Princes in Tower. LONDON, December 1. "The Times” reveals that for the purpose of establishing the truth concerning their fate, the remains cf Edward V. and his brother Richard, Duke of York—“ the two Princes in the Tower ” —were exhumed from their grave in Westminster Abbey last July. The two PAnces were found murdered in the Tower of London in 1483, and the death has been variously attributed to Richard 111. and Henry VII. In 1674 the bones found in a staircase in the Tower were assumed to be those of the Princes, and were buried as such in the Abbey, but reputable historians often hinted they were not the Princes’ bones, and even that they were animal benes. The exhumation which was carried out secretly on July 6 in the presence of the Dean of Westminster, Lord Moyniham and Professor Wright, president of the Anatomical Society, was a test of whether modern science could deduce from the bones anything throwing a light on the Princes’ fate. The exhumation lasted for five days, and included photographs. Proving Their Ages. The results of the examination as disclosed at a meeting of the Society of Antiquaries, leave little doubt that the bones are those of the Princes. Had the murder occurred after the Battle of Bosworth, August 1485, Edward Y. would have been 14 years and 10 months old and his brother 12— ages which are entirely at variance with the anatomical evidence. The two Princes were then already dead for many months before Henry VII. seized the throne. The guilt of the murder, therefore, can now be flxed, just four centuries and a half after the crime, upon the first suspect—Richard 111.
