Dr Mowll Tells of Chinese Adventures. LONDON, December 1. “ The wily people in Sydney, in offering me the position described it as an important evangelical post, knowing that’ would make it hard for me to resist,” said Dr Mowll, when explaining at a dinner arranged by the West China Diocesan Association, his acceptance of the Archbishopric of SydDescribing the high lights of his experiences since he was last in London in 1931, Dr Mowll mentioned that he and his w’lfe had been held up by bandits, while last year rival armies made a battleground of their home in Chengtu. “ Soldiers were in occupation of the house for 24 hours,” said Dr Mowll. “ They wrecked or looted everything. I did not see them wearing my clothes, but they disappeared, and 1 had to wear Chinese clothes. “ I feared that there might be a serious massacre at any moment and we prayed hard for deliverance after which a totally unexpected manoeuvre by one cf the generals enabled us to escape by passing between the armies.”
