Three Road Races Held at Mairehau. The Christchurch Cycling Club held three road races at Mairehau last evening, when events were held for schoolboys and novice riders and an open sweepstake was conducted. Great interest was shown in the races, which attracted one of the largest crowds for some time. The schoolboys’ race drew a field of ten riders, the scratch men being L. Snook, S. Dalv and G. Swanston. The limit was 75see. The event was held over a four and a half mile course and resulted as follows: A. Green (45ser-), l4n\in 37sec .... 1 R. Robinson (45sec), 14min 37 l-ssec 2 S. The president, Mr W. J. Walter, presided at the first meeting of the Mairehau Amateur Cycling Club held at Mairehau last evening. An open road race was arranged for Thursday, December 14, starting at the corner of Hills and Briggs Roads at 6.30 p.m. It was decided to hold a novice race on the following Monday. Several vice-presidents have presented medals and these are to be given as prizes for the novice races. The question of holding a novice road championship was referred to a future meeting, when the date, distance and prizes will be arranged A blue riband has been promised for this race. The question of holding an amateur championship was discussed and the matter was finally left to a sub-com-mittee to report to. the next meeting.
