DOMINATIONS for the Dunedin summer meeting on December 26 and 27 will close to-day at 5 p.m. * * st= * Acceptances for the Hororata Racing Club’s meeting at Riccarton close on Monday, at S p.m. :Js * * * Nominations will close on Monday at 9 p.m. for the Waikouaiti Racing Club’s meeting on January 1. Stakes total £1175. The Cup. of £355, is run over a mile and a quarter. * * * Nominations will close at 9 p.m. on Monday for the Oamaru Jockey Club’s meeting on January 2. Stakes total £1045. The mile President’s Handicap is worth £250. OUT OF HACK CLASS, The three-year-old Rereatu had little to spare at the finish of the Takapuna Plate, but the race, his second of the season, was very beneficial, and he stripped a better horse on the second day, when he missed a place through no fault of his own. There is no doubt from Rereatu’s performances that he has retained all his early speed, and he is a robust customer who should thrive on racing and do well over short distances. Rereatu is now out of the hack class, but he has several nominations that he will be able to run out, and one of these is the Queen’s Plate at Kllerslie, a race in which he should have excellent prospects. * * * ❖ H. and A. Cutts are still at the head of the winning trainers’ list with eleven successes, but F. Tilley is running them close with ten wins, GAY MARIGOLD. Owing to trouble in one of her shoulders, Gay Marigold had to be spelled for a period last season, and subsequently her form was not as good as previously. This season she has come right back to her best and has won at her last two starts. Although she was ridden right out at the finish, the manner in which she won the Pupuke Plate confirmed the impression that she can stay fairly well, and she should be a possibility for a good middle-dis-tance handicap in the near future. SILVER STREAK. Silver "Streak, winner of the C.J.C. Stewards’ Handicap, who has 7st 101 b in the Railway Handicap, has been nominated for several minor events at the Auckland fixture. He holds an engagement at the Hororata meeting at Riccarton to-morrow week. WINNING JOCKEYS. Keith Voitre again has a good lead on the winning jockeys’ list. His total is 30. B. *H. Morris and H. N. Wiggins are next with 18 wins apiece, and W. J. Broughton fourth with 17. Among South Island riders, A. E. Ellis, 16 wins, A. H. Eastwood 13, L. J. Ellis 11 and A. Russell 9, have done best to date. ❖ * * * Four Auckland Cup candidates, namely, Brambletorn, Fairway, Gold Trail and - Courtyard, are engaged in the Boltcm Memorial Cup at Woodville to-morrow. FOR WF.ST COAST. T. H. Gillett has Errantry and Sky Rover engaged at the Westland Racing Club’s meeting and may have, in addition. Sweet Agnes at Greymouth and Reefton. Sky Rest, who will accompany Yerden to the West Coast, is a three-year-old by Robespierre from Skyquest, who was bred by Sir George Clifford. The mare is by Autumnus from Telescope, by Martian from Weathereye, by Maxim. * * * * K. Voitre will ride Lovecourt at Woodville to-morrow. S. Wilson’s mounts will include Purse and Flower. R AIL WA V rA N DID AT E, Bambury displa\-ed his customary speed in the Spring Handicap at Takapuna on Saturday, He began smartly and was one of the leaders all the way. only failing in the last few strides. He had 8.13 on him, and considering the five furlongs and a half were covered in lmin 8 2-ssec, it was a good effort. He has only had a cor.-ile of races this season, winning at Waikato in his first start over six furlongs, while he was third in the event un<4gr review. Bambury has 8.0 in the Railway Handicap at Ellerslie, and he is a very likely sort if started in that event. His sire. Scherzo, was a great sprinter in England, and he has the family trait. * * * * F. D. Jones has again taken up the two-year-old Safety Zone (British Empire—Zaragoza).

C. Davev, when he goes to the West Coast with Davolo, will be paying his first visit there for some years. He spent his boyhood there. CHOKEBORE TRAVELLERS. Albert Cutts does not travel much, but he is likely to take charge of the Chokebore team for Awapuni—High Rank, Heather Glow, and Silly Owl. 11. Cutts will leave for Auckland on Monday week with Rocket, Cricket Bat, Copyist and Horn’s Reef. * * * ❖ Three members of S. J. Reid’s team whose work at Trentham -inri recent form alike suggest bright prospects during the holida> r meetings are Secrecy, Tutor and Might. A UCK LAND-BOUND. The Trentham pair Red Sun and Epigram are definitely to go to Ellerslie lor the holiday racing, and they will leave for the north :»ext Wednesday. Each will probably have his first race on the trip at the Waipa meeting, where Red Sun will contest the Te Awamutu Cup and Epigram the sevenj furlong Hack Cup. It is not yet certain that Colossical will make the trip, but Red Sun and Epigram will have other mates on the journey in Limbohm and Salt Spray. Salt Spray is being sent down from Levin next w« ek to be entrained at Wellington, and Limbohm is to join up at Palmerston North. C. Goulsbro’ has been engaged to ride both Red Sun and Limbohm when the weights suit. * * * ❖ Colledge Leader, newly appointed trainer to Lord Derby, is a strict churchgoer and insists on his stableboys to church on Sundays. BRAMBLETORN’S CHANCE As winner of the Metropolitan at Riccarton with 8.3 at his most recent start, Brambletorn does not look at all badly treated in the Bolton Memorial at Woodville to-morrow with 9.0,, especially as he is a gelding who handles weight well. The Woodville course is one that will suit him, and if he has retained his southern form he will be a very hard horse to beat. •V V v Riccarton two-year-olds have not dis tinguished themselves so far, except at the Dunedin meeting, but three of them have been nominated for the juvenile handicaps at Ellerslie. Th ; s trio is Control, Variant and Horn’s Reef. AGE IS TELLING. The best Paganelli could do in his two races on the second day at Takapuna was to finish fourth, and he seems to have lost some of his early brilliancy, as he was slow to gather speed in both his races. As he is in his tenth year, Paganelli has reached an age where his brilliancy is likely to be waning, but it is possible that he may do better over longer distances than he contested at the meeting, as he ran a solid mi’e and a quarter last season, and may do so again if he keeps sound. LIKES SOFT GOING.

It is evident from his performances that Master Norval is distinctly partial to soft going, and he was in his element

on the easy track on the first day at Takapuna, when he won the Alison Cup very comfortably. As the result of his three successive wins he has risen considerably in the weights, and he is now up on a mark with the best handicap horses in the province, so that his tasks are going to be much harder. However, he is a genuine customer who stays rather well. MISSED WHENUAKUR.U If the New Zealand two-vear-old Whenuakura should continue his present superiority and develop into a first-class horse later in his career, one prominent Sydney racing man will have reason to regret his haste in dismissing the colt because of the age of his dam. Silver Link (says a Sydney writer). Before he had commenced to race, Whenuakura was on the market at a reasonable price, and inquiries were commenced by the Sydney man, who, not having raced a horse for many years, was tempted to buy the colt and bring him to Australia. His advisers, however, reminded him that Silver Link was over twenty years old, and that it was tempting Providence to expect her to throw a good horse at that age, and so he remained in his retirement. Mr W. Kirkland, the owner, when he came to Sydney recently, intimated that Whenuakura would be brought over for the A.J.C. autumn meeting. Being a gelding, the youngster cannot run in the Sires’ Produce Stakes, but he is eligible for the Champagne Stakes, and other good races can be picked up with him. Perhaps he will be again on the sale list, but the price will be many times greater than that for which he could have been picked up a few months back. AMMON RA’S SISTER. Ammon Ra’s sister, Prolyxo, showed a complete return to form in winning over six furlongs on the first day and over nine furlongs on the second, at Takapuna. She had little to spare on the first occasion, but she scored very convincingly over the longer distance, which suited her better. Most of Prolyxo’s racing has been done at distances of a mile and under, but her latest performance demonstrated that she is not averse to longer journeys, says the Auckland “ Herald,” and in her present condition she should run a mile and a quarter really well. sfc * & t’fi G. IT. Humphries has been engaged to ride Manetho, Some Shamble, Grand Review and Silver Jest at the Hororata meeting, where A. E. Ellis’s mounts will include Highbrow in the Trial Plate.
