As was anticipated, there was a large gathering of delegates at the quarterly meeting, over which Brother C. H. Browne presided. The president’s report -stated that the whole interior of the shop had been renovated, and the front .of the building painted and the signs re-written. The change round in the shop had been greatly appreciated by customers, and an increase in sales was anticipated. The lodge prescriptions dispensed during the quarter totalled 17.295, and at the all-night dispensary 212, a decrease of over 2500 on the previous quarter, which indicated an improvement in the health of members. The recommendation of the board to maintain the levy of 2s 6d ! (hospital). Is 9d (dispensary) females Js, was endorsed. The interview with the Minister of Health for a renewal of the existing contract with the Hospital Board for a further three years, resulted in his approval of the hospital bed scheme being continued for one year only, conditionally on the approval of the Hospital Board. An application has been made for a further twelve months’ agreement on the present terms. The hospital account for the quarter on account of members using the bed scheme was £l3 90, a very slight increase on last quarter. A.O.F. Centenary of the Order.—ln order to celebrate this event and by instructions from the High Court in England, the executive has decided on a series of functions early in June. Throughout the w-orld on Sunday, June 3. Foresters will be participating in church parades and special services, and in the Canter- ’ bury district the church parade will ' iake place at the Anglican Cathedral ofi that date, when the Dean of Christchurch (the Very Rev J. A. Julius) will officiate*. On the following Thursday, June 7, .a Foresters’ banquet will be held, and it is proposed to invite the Mayor of Christchurch, prominent citizens and th>. official presiding officers of sister societies. For the pleasure of the children of members a picnic will take place at Stewart’s Gully on Easter Saturday (March 31). Particulars of this event will be circulated to Courts ; as soon as arrangements are completed. Ritual Competitions.—To further ; commemorate the centenary of the i Order it has been decided to invite j entries for a ritual competition during i the year 3 934, when a shield will be l competed for, to be won by the best

conducted Court. This will be retained for one year only, and the successful Court's name will be ins.-ribed. Arrangements will be made for the examination of Courts when they are in readiness to receive the appointed officers. The competition will be under the supervision of the District Ritual Supervisor (Brother E. Rudkin, P.D.C.R.). and Courts will he advised when the entries close. Court Star of Canterbury.—The passing of Brother Frederick Higgott will leave another gap in the ranks of the “ old brigade ” of the Court. He joined the Court in ISS9, and although he was not able to pass through the offices of the Court owing to business arrangements, he was a sick visitor and took a keen interest in the Court’s activities. His genial and kindly disposition made him very popular with Foresters, and we honour his memory as one who endured with fortitude a long and painful illness. MAT., X.0.0.F. North Canterbury District Committee of Management.—The District Grand Master (Brother S. J. Geary) presided, and an invitatiqn was accepted from Loyal Kaiapoi Lodge to attend a church parade on Sunday, December 17 at 6.30 p.m. It was decided to arrange for transport by motor bus and tickets will be issued from the District office only. Arrangements were made to confer the Purple Degree at Malvern on December 31. Reports on the recent visit to Loyal Coleridge were given, and the Committee of Management decided to visit Loyal A'olunteer Juvenile Lodge on Thursday, December 34. when the annual prize-giving ceremony will take place. Loyal Cust Lodge.—The celebration of the diamond jubiße of tire Loyal Cust Lodge, 1.0.0.F.M’.U., which took place on Saturday and Sunday, was a conspicuous success and reflected very great credit on those who had charge of the arrangements. The attendance was large, and all present succeeded in spending a most enjoyable evening, lister lodges were well represented, and visitors from Christchurch included the Grand'.Master, Brother Archibald, and Past-Gr&nijl Brother A. D. Hassall, who gave an interesting resume of the difficulties whieh. tb*e pioneer members had to overcome in th* ir efforts to place the lodge on a sound footing. Brother Hassall paid a tribute to a number of the early members who had passed away but wtre held in affectionate remembrance. Loyal Past Grands Lodge, No I.—The president. Brother A. Foster, qccupied the chair, and a good representation of Past Grands attended. At the request of the president, the D.G.M., Brother S. J. Gearv, presented a Past Master’s certificate, to Brother IT. J. Brown, and congratulated him on the success of the lodge during his term of office. A letter of thanks for support tendered during official visits was received from the District Grand Master. An interesting and instructive address was given bv P.G. Brother J. Byfielcl. who was accorded a vote of thanks. F. Star of Opawa.—The quarterly meeting was well attended, and the N.G.. Brother S. Young, presided. Correspondence was received from Grand Lodge concerning remits for the conference, and from Dr L. Cordery applying to have his name added to the lodge medical officers’ list. Visiting brethren from Ridgely and Dunedin Lodges were welcomed, and an interesting lecturette on the rules of debate was given by Brother S. W. Perkins. At the conclusion of the business visitors were entertained at supper. 1.0.G.T. Lily of Sydenham Temple.—The C.T.. Sister E. Apr, presided, and one new member was initiated. Sister .J. Brayne reported that a small profit had been made from the adult party held on Monday, and invited parents to attend the party arranged for next Monday. An interesting address was given by Brother T. Cochrane. S.J.W.. Rising Hope Temple.- Ashburton. and was warmly welcomed. An invitation to attend the anniversary and picnic of the Rising Hope Temple was accepted. 1.0. R. On Monday evening the Rechabites were the guests of the Oddfellows, and the evening was spent in a most fraternal manner. Sunshine Tent.—Two candidates were initiated bv the Chief Ruler, Brother Harris, at the meeting held on Tuesday. Star of New Brighton.—A very enjoyable evening was spent last Tuesday, when the Church of England Men’s Club paid their return visit. The sixpenny social and dance has been postponed; notice of the alteration in date will be advertised. U.A.O.D. Royal Arch Chapter, No. I—The meeting called for Tuesday, December 12. in the Orange Hall, will have as the principal item the conferring of Past Arch degrees. The syllabus for the coming year is also set down for consideration, and Past Arches who have not taken their degree are invited to obtain their certificates from ihejr lodge secretarybefore presenting themselves for the degree. Mistletoe Lodge.—The summoned meeting held on Monday evening was presided over by the Arch Druid (Brother P. Turnbull). The auditors’ report and balance-sheet were discussed, and the senior auditor (Brother AV. L. Thomas) commented on the flourishing condition of aJI the lodge’s accounts. A good credit balance was shown in the sick and funeral fund, when, after handing over to the Grand Lodge the surplus from the 1930 valuation, amounting to £1503, the balance was £S6O9. The installation of officers was conducted by the retiring District President. Brother Robinson, assisted by P.D.P. Brother F. Hughes. Brother W. Keen, Hope of St Albans Lodge, was nominated as District President for the coming year. It was resolved that Brother Bastion’s name he placed on the respect board, and that he be presented with a framed Past Arch diploma next lodge, night. Votes of thanks were accorded the visitors, including Brothers J. E. Bennett (Roskill Lodge. Auckland), N. Goode (Oak of Sydenham), and Keen (Hope of St Albans). Members were of the children’s Christmas tree parts'- on December 18, and it was resolved to hold tho next meeting early in the year. X
