Gatherings Held in Town and Country. SUNSHINE CLUB'S DANCE. The Sunshine Club, a women’s organisation which has been formed recently in Christchurch for the purpose of encouraging sunbathing in the city, held its opening dance at Frascati last evening. Mrs N. A. M’Kenzie, the organiser, who was hostess last evening, wore a lime-green organdi frock with short frilled sleeves. A mauve sash and shoulder spray to match added an unusual touch. Bob Bradford’s orchestra supplied the music. Anions those present. were:—Mesdantes Syd Corner, R. J. Mitchell. 1.. Corner and It. W. Blazey, Misses Rene Herbert, Gladys Stigley, Una Woodward, Xsaire Hamilton, Eveleen Bannerman, Jphm M’Pherson, Doris O’Connor, Alice Stewart, Irene Cater. Iris Hawker, Thelma Parks. Jean Ryan and Esme Eva ns. China Gift Evening. To honour Miss Mary Bacon, whose marriage will take place in Wellington shortly. Mrs V. C. M’Phail, Tui Street, Fendalton, entertained a number of friends at. a china gift party at her home on Tuesday evening. An enjoyable time was spent with competitions and games. Competitions were won b.y Misses J. Greaves. L. Wright, G. Lockwood and Mrs M’Kenzie. Those present included:—Mesdames H. Plummer, I. M’Kenzie and J. Gouldinj?; Misses M. Bacon, X. Abraham, M. Bridgeman, T. Malcolm, M. Peate. Ij. Wright, G. I-odcwood, L. Baxter. J. Hope, F. Fraser, J. Greaves and C. M’Phail. Bride-elect Entertained. Residents of Mount Somers, Buccleugh and Springburn held a gift evening in honour of Miss Maggie Fagan, who is shortly to be married, in the granary lent by Mr and Mrs A. B. Lockhead, Buccleugh. Competitions and dancing were enjoyed. Music for the dancing was supplied by the Staveley Orchestra, extras being played by Mrs A. B. Lockhead and Mr E. Wolfrev. Mr T. M’Neill was M.C. Messrs A. Lockhead and T. M’Neill speof the esteem in which the guest was held in the district, and extended best wishes for her future happiness. Miss Fagan was the recipient of many useful gifts and also a substantial cheque. Fancy Dress Carnival. To augment the funds of the Lyttelton Nursing Division of the St John Ambulance Association, a successful fancy dress dance was held in the St John Ambulance Hall, Peterborough Street, last evening. Miss R. Ferguson, lady superintendent of the Lyttelton Nursing Division, assisted by an energetic committee comprising Mesdames R. Illingworth, W. B. Laing. W. M’Ginty, A. Richardson and F. Priddy, Misses M. Ny.strain, R. C. Moore and A, Vidulich, Mr C. Ellis and Mr I. R. Muriro, was responsible for the arrangements. The Lyttelton Nursing Division will benefit; considerably bv the effort. The Row Wallace Orchestra supplied the music for the dancing and during the evening dainty dances were contributed by the Misses Gabriel Flint, Ruth Ilazeldane and Dorothy Cook, Miss Stella Robertson being accompanist. The judges for the fancy costumes were Miss A. Borrie, Mrs A. L. Bishop and Mrs M. Cordy.
