BRING AND BUY SOCIAL.

Members of Styx-Harewood W.D.F.U. A pleasant afternoon was spent at the residence of Mrs R. Jones, Styx Bridge, on Tuesday, when the members of the Styx-Harewood branch of the W.D.F.U. held a bring and buy social. Over eighty guests arrived from Christchurch and surrounding branches and the lawn presented a busy scene with clock golf, croquet and a treasure hunt in progress, and the produce, cake and variety stalls piesided over by the members of the branch. Mrs Hall. president of the Christchurch branch, after being presented with a botiquet of roses by Frances bow, opened the fair. She congratulated the branch on its work and xvished it every success. .She also gave an account of the work being done through the bush nurse and housekeeper scheme. Mrs Denham also spoke, expressing good wishes and hopes for the continued success of the branch. A musical programme arranged by Mrs R. Donald followed, the singers being-: Mesrtames J. W. Falk, R. Donald. K. Andrews and Miss V. Dalzell. Mrs Wvatt and Miss Menzies contributed a humorous sketch. Mrs R. Jones thanked the performers for their contributions which had been much appreciated, also the visitors and Mrs Hall for helping to m«*ke the afternoon a success. Afternoon lea was dispensed. The following competitors were successful in the various games: Croquet. Mr C. Smith; clock golf. Miss fjetty Purvis; treasure hunt. Mrs Denham; cake guessing, Mrs M Death. •
