“THE NEW POOR.”

Three-Act Comedy Staged at Ashburton. (Special to the “Star.”) ASHBURTON, December 6. There was a large attendance at His Majesty’s Theatre. Ashburton, this evening, when the Ashburton Repertory Society concluded its season with the presentation of the three-act comedy, “The Xew Poor,” by Cosmo Hamilton. The comedy was well staged, and the humorous situations throughout the plot, which centred round the experiences of a wealthy American family, created much la tighter. The cast was as follows:—Mrs Curtis Wellby, Mrs L. Sherborne; Constance Wellby, Miss W. Andrew; Betty Wellby, Miss T. K. West: Mary Maxwell Maudsley, Miss R. Chamberlain: Amos Wellby, Mr J. H. Millar; Alice Wellby. Mrs M. L. Ryburn; Ha>'rison Gutteridge. Mr P. Choate; Prince Vladimir Dionieswitch Darieveky, Mr G. C. Xicoll; Count Ivan Andrelevitch Storogev, Mr G. Good; Grand Duke Boris Jgorivitch, Mr A. Prentice; Princess Irina Petrovna Shakovskaya, Miss A. M. Madden; Kirk O’Farrell. I>r W. R. Ryburn. Mr C. Moiler was stage manager. The orchestra, which was under the able direction of Dr X. E. H. Fulton, played the overture, “ Der Frieschutz" (Weber). “From a Russian Village” (Marsden), " Faust Ballet” (Gounod) and “Liberty Day March” (Zamecnik). The producer was Miss Xaare Hooper, of Christchurch.
