Proposed Sports Meeting Discussed. (Special to the “ Star.”) ASHBURTON, December 4. A meeting of those interested in holding a sport? meeting on January 2 was held in the A. and P. rooms to-night. Mr H. W. Sherratt presided over a small attendance. Mr J. Smith stated that it was a good opportunity a? there were a number of athletes and cyclists who would take part if a meeting could be arranged for that date. Mr C. Samuels said it was a matter of finance and being able to make the meeting pay its way. After discussion it was considered that in view of the Ilakatere sports meeting being held on January 1 and the lack of time to make arrangements for an open meeting on January 2, to abandon the idea this year and to consider later the holding of a sport meeting on Easter Saturday. Garden Party. There was a good attendance at a garden party held at Mrs T. Lewitt’s residence, West Belt, this afternoon, by St Stephen's Ladies’ Guild. Opportunity was taken to extend a welcome to Mesdames H. and R. Stephenson, who have just returned from a trip to England. During the afternoon a croquet competition was held, the winner being Mrs E. Coker. Miss Bushell’s pupils gave an exhibition of dancing on the green. Afternoon tea was provided by Mrs Lewitt. _____
