Hottest Day so Far This Summer. Those who look forward to the warmth of mid-summer were in their element to-day. At 11.20 a.m. the mercury reached its highest level this summer with a shade temperature of 80.6 degrees. A light north-east breeze took the edge off the heat, but light clothing was the order. The heat seemed most oppressive in the city shortly after ten o'clock. Two cases of people collapsing have been reported, one a lady and the other an elderly man. During the past week or so there have been several days when the shade temperature exceeded 70 degrees, while the hottest day last month was on November 11—75 degrees. Hot temperatures are not exceptional lor this time of the year, for it is considered that December heralds in the summer weather.
