In the Vauxhall Handicap the winner turned up in the little-fancied Roman Mascot, who did not come into the picture till entering the straight, ’when she put in a fast run to be third behind Bell Kyrian and Chief Clerk when straightened up for the judge. Teddy’s Boy, who had been with Bell Kyrian and Chief Clerk in the lead, was tiring at this stage. In the run home Roman Mascot did best to win by a length from Solarium, who put in a great run from the turn. Bell Kyrian was half a length away, just clear of Chief Clerk, Echo Song, Lagoon and Alpinus. The winner paid over a third of a century on the win machine. A Great Finish. In the Cautley Handicap Rereatu was favourite on both machines. Across the top Sinking Fund and Greek Gold were almost together, and Puriri Park had dropped back to last. Turning into the straight Greek Gold and Sinking Fund were together with Rereatu and Hampton Park together in behind and Quietly and Puriri Park handy. A great race ensued to the judge, Sinking Fund getting the verdict by half a head from Greek Gold and Quietly, who dead-heated for second money. Paganelli was fourth, with Hampton Park, Puriri Park and Rereatu following. Kawau Handicap. In the Kawau Handicap, Courthaven was favourite. Along the back and across the top. United and Eldora were in the lead from Free Air, Snow Prince, Black Marlin, Courthaven and Royal Survey. Black Marlin then moved up and was in front with United turning for home, with Eldora, Snow Prince, Free Air and Courthaven following. Black Marlin did best in the straight and beat Free Air by a length, with Courthaven half a length away. Snow Prince was fourth, with Eldora, United and Billy Boy following.
