RELIEF RATIONS

Proposed Protest Against Cut. Agitators have been at work for some da3's organising a demonstration of relief workers in the city as a protest against the reduction in the scale of rations recently announced. They hope to assemble 5000 relief workers with their womenfolk on Thursday morning and to hold a meeting to be addressed by a number of speakers. Delegates have been round the various jobs on which relief workers are employed endeavouring to organise parties from the Sumner causeway, the Cashmere Hills, New Brighton, Ashley and other centres of relief activity. A contingent is also expected from Kaiapoi. It will be remembered that during the winter a demonstration was organised on somewhat similar lines to protest against the camp scheme which had only then been instituted. No official statement has been issued regarding the proposed demonstration and the organisation has been carried out with the utmost secrecy.-
