Uproarious comedy situations develop in 44 Stepping Out,” which began a return season at the Grand Theatre today. A cast of clever comedians headed by Reginald Denny sets the ball rolling in merry fashion, and the pace increases as the picture goes on to its hilarious ending. “Stepping Out” is a Comedy of married life in Hollywood. They say that while the cat’s away the mice will play, and this was the case with Tom Martin and Tubby Smith, who invited two pretty girls to Tom’s home posedly away. The wives return, and despite the husbands’ frantic efforts to hide the girls, their philandering is discovered; the wives depart, vowing that they never want to see Tom and Tubby again. To make the matter worse, the women have found deeds making over all their husbands’ property and money to them. Charlotte Greenwood is scintillatingly witty as Sally Smith. Her remarks keep the audience in a constant slate of hilarity, and she has an admirable foil in Harry Stubbs, who plays the part of her hen-pecked husband. Leila Hyams plays Eve Martin, and the part of Tom is taken by the cheerful Reginald Denny.
