TEST CRICKET.
“No Longer a Game, But Stern, Relentless Fight.” LONDON, November IS. “ Are sports crowds cruel?” asks the sporting editor of the “ Daily Mail.” “ We have reached a stage when leaders of every sport are demanded,” he added. “ Sports have become so exacting that only those with brains of ice and bodies of steel and whipcord can hope to stand the strain. “ The English and Australian cricketers were very near to a breakdown more than once in the last tests. “ Test cricket is no longer a game, but a stern, relentless fight. The Board of Control drinks suggestion was caused by the crowd’s irritation about frequent delays. “ The spectators did not realise the effect of the tropical heat on the English bowlers, who could not eat lunch and had to rely on sips of champagne, yet this meant much barracking.”
