HORNBY NEWS.
Presbyterian Church Meeting.
There was a large attendance at the annual meeting- of St David's Presbyterian Church, Hornby, held on Monday evening. The Moderator, the Rev J. Allan, presided. The report of the Session was read by Mr W. H. Busch in the absence of the session clerk, Mr R. J. Roberts. The report of the board of managers was presented by the treasurer, the balance-sheet disclosing a small credit. The balance-sheet of the Hornby Sunday School also disclosed a credit of £7 4s. Reports of the various church organisations were read by the respective secretaries, the P.W.M.U. (Mrs J. Drake), Tennis Club and the Young Men’s Bible Class (Mr Crozier), Young Women’s Bible Class (Miss Hazel Mackie), Girls’ Club (Miss P. Robinson), Helping Hands Club' (Miss Betty Roberts). Members of the Sockburn Presbyterian Sunday School were also present. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted In Messrs J. Tay’lor, S. Mackie, A. Mackie. D. Musgrove. J- Dann, Cammock, T. Wastney, Archibald Still, jun., E. Fuller, S. M’Millan, Beaven, Schofield and Crozier being appointed. A motion of thanks was passed to the minister, Mr K. H. Evans, elders and managers, Bible Class leaders, Sunday School teachers and organist. Templeton LoAgc, Z.0.0.F. There was a good attendance of members at the quarterly meeting of the Templeton Oddfellows’ Lodge. Brother H. Wright presided. Two brothers were reported on the sick list and sick pay and accounts amounting tc £3B 10s 3d were passed for payment. During the evening an initiation ceremony was held, when one candidate was initiated into the Order. The secretary was instructed to procure greeting cards to be sent to the sister lodges. A welcome was extended to Brother Alsop, of Washington Lodge. At the conclusion of the meeting supper was served. Combined Church Service. A combined church service of the cure of Prebbleton. Hornby and Templeton parochial district was held in St Saviour's Church, Templeton, on Sunday evening, the Rev Hubert Jqnes conducting the service. There was a large congregation, the seating capacity being taxed to the utmost. After the service the parishioners of Templeton entertained the visitors to supper in the Oddfellows’ Hall. Mr Carpenter thanked the hosts for their hospitality on behalf of the Prebbleton members, and Mr J. Marsden expressed thanks and appreciation on behalf of the Hornby people. Mr Donne responded on behalf of the hosts. A sacred solo was rendered by Mrs Lee, Templeton, the Rev Hubert Jones playing the accompaniment. -
