CRICKET.

Representative Match at Springston. ELLESMERE v. SUBURBAN. and the Suburban Association began their match in the Sub-association Shield competition at Springston yesteray. The weather was ideal, and the wicket and outfield in good order. Suburban batted first, opening with X. Stokes and S. Cawtheray. The pair put on 35 for the first wicket, but two more wickets fell for 5 runs, and three were down for 40. M’Ewen and Waine put on 40 for the fourth wicket, but Oliver and Harris went cheaply. Later in the innings Archer, Owen and Sincock made useful stands, and the total reached 187. Bowling for Ellesmere, M. Templeton took two for 82 and J. Bain six for 50. Ellesmere lost two wickets for 5 runs, then G. Macartney and Grimwood carried the score to 58. Five wickets fell for an additional 20 runs', and seven were down for 78. H.
