CAUGHT IN YARD.
Theft of Coal From Railway Department.
Following losses of coal from trucks at the Heathcote railway station, Railway Department officials set a watch, and Leslie Weir Gemmel, twenty-seven years of age, of Hills Road, Heathcote, was caught red—or, rather, black — handed.
Gemmel appeared in the Police Court before Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M., to-day, and pleaded guilty to the theft of coal valued at 2s, the property of the Railway Department. Gemmel, a married man with two young children, said he had applied for coal from charitable organisations, but did not get any.
Accused was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence within six months if called upon
