TRUTH ABOUT THE STRIKE.

Dear Sir,—X have read with amusement and wonder the various ideas of the people who really do not know the facts on the above subject. Even Mr Mathison can only date its origin back to 1931. Now, sir, as an old tramwayvnan, I know the facts, and the trouble between the board and union dates back to 1921, when the board was forced by Order-in-Council to put a conductor in charge of each trailer. Ever since that date there has been friction between the two bodies. To be brief, I challenge Mr Thompson to dispute the fact that had the board put a conductor on each trailer there would have been no necessity to dismiss either seventeen men in 1931 or twelve men in 1932, and hence no strike.—l am, etc., RATEPAYER No. 3
