GARDEN PARTY.

Methven Women’s Institute Meets. The ordinary meeting of the Methven Women’s Institute took the form of a garden party held at the residence of Mrs E; A. Bland, Rosedale, Methven. The weather was fine and the gathering was most successful, due to the efforts of Mrs Bland. Mesdames Stone and G. Callaghan gave a resume of the business transacted at the Timaru Conference held recently. A proposal to form a Mid-Canterbury Federation -embracing twenty-four institutes with headquarters at Ashburton was agreed to and the decision to confirm the new arrangement was now awaited from the Dominion Executive. Provided that approval is given, the new federation will function from the New Year. During the afternoon many treasure hunts were organised by Mrs Bland and these were won by Mesdames J. F. Newman, A. J. Penny end W. F. Reynclds. A tennis tournament was won by Miss Kitty Beary and Miss Eileen eleeve. A putting competition was won by Mrs G. Waddington and Miss EL Cleeve, and a picture competition was won by Mrs W. F. Reynolds, with Mrs Jesse Stone second. Member* F»r«well»d. At afternoon tea opportunity was taken to bid farewell to Mesdames W. J. Cooksley and Ashley Dean. Mrs J. F. Stone expressed regret at losing Mrs Cooksley as 'president owing to her removal to Christchurch, and Mrs Dean, a valued member, who will leave shortly for England. On behalf of members she presented Mrs Cooksley with a morocco hand bag and Mrs Dean with a silver butter knife and spoon, engraved -with th .° institute’s monogram. Mesdames Aitken and Suckling endorsed the previous speaker's remarks. A vote of thanks was accorded Mrs Bland for the use of her grounds, also to the hostesses. It was announced that the next institute "KftJng, would take the form of a children s party on December 9. Institute members and children are to be asked to assist. All present to be asked VU kring" a gift for a Christmas tree. Ail gifts are to be handed to the unemployed. Mrs A. Titheridge was appointed organiser for the gathering.
