SWIMMING.
Sydenham Club Opens Season. The Sydenham Amateur Swimming Club’s season was declared open on Saturday afternoon by Councillor M. E. Lyons, patron of the club. Results of races were:—2syds junior girls—Olga Taylor 1, Avril Norton 2. Time—lßsec. 25yds boys—S. Tanner 1, X. Thomson 2. Time—2l 3-ssec. 25yds senior women— N. Lester 1, E. Agar 2. Time—lßsec. 25yds senior men—R. M’Caw 1, B. Cutting 2. Time —19sec. Women’s dive— O. Taylor. Boys’ and men’s dive—C. Williams. Several novelty races were held among the small children.
Dates for the Season. Dates for the inter-club carnivals during the season have been approved by the Canterbury Swimming Centre as follow: December 13—Centre, at Tepid Bath. January 20—Hornby Ciuo, at Hornby hath. January 24—Centre, at Tepid Bath. January 27—Elmwood, at Elmwood bath. January 31—Christchurch-United, at Tepid Bath. February 3—YVliarenui, at Wliarenui bath. February 7—Somerfield, at Tepid Bath. Febi uary 10—Linwood, at Linwood bath. February 14—East Christchurch, at Tepid Bath. February 17, 19, 21—New Zealand championships. February 24—Phillipstown. at Phillipstown bath. March 3—Beckenham, at Beckenham bath.
