Committee Arranges Picnic at Corsair Bay. A special meeting of the Hornby School Committee was held on Monday evening; present: Messrs F. A M’Teigue (chairman), H. Parker (stcretary), 12. Pearce, Alex Still, P. White, J. Kempthorwe and L. a. Rorman. Arrangements for the school picnic to be held at Corsair Bay on December 9 were completed. Transport facilities were offered by the Nfew Zealand Railwavs a charge of 2s 9d for adults and Is 6d for children, which were accepted, Hornby school children’s fares to be borne by the committee. It was decided to provide a dux medal, to award prizes to the most progressive pupils in each standard and to give each child in the primer classes a book. Arrangements were then finalised for the social to be held in the Islington Welfare Hall on Saturday evening and for drawing a competition. Charity Ball Committee. A meeting of the Hornby-Islington Charity Ball Committee was held on Tuesday evening; present: Mr F. A. M’Teigue (chairman), Mfesdames Maclaine and H. Day. Messrs H. D. Moran and J. G. Marsden (secretary). The secretary’s statement of receipts and expenditure in connection with th*e dance held on Labour Day, disclosed a profit of £4 Ss sd. It was agreed that this money be devoted to the purchase of some means of improving the supply of hot water at the Islington Hall. Church Services. A large congregation was present on Sunday evening at the St Columba Church. Hornby, when the Bishop of Christchurch preached. The Bishop took the opportunity of congratulating the parishoners on the part they had played in successfully carrying on the church work. He was pleased to say that the affairs of the Hornby Church were in a much better position than when he madte his last visit. Druids’ Dodge. The half-yearly meeting of the Olive Branch Lodge of Druids was held on November 21. F.A. Druid Brother I. Wastney presiding. Sick pay for £5 13s 4d and accounfb for £62 6s 6d were passed for payment. An amount of £lO 7s 2d was passed to assist needy brothers. Election of officers resulted: V.A.D| Brother J.
