Municipal Electric Works on Waimakariri. CABINETS DECISION. (“ Star ” Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON. November 22. The Government will not permit the Christchurch City Council to go ahead with the construction of a hydroelectric generating station on the Waimakariri, and it is understood it is prepared to pass legislation embodying this decision if the City Council persists in its proposals to go ahead with such a scheme. The basis of the Government’s decision is a desire to protect the public works system, including Coleridge and Waitaki.
