HIGH TEA HELD.

Church Celebrations Continued. The 75th anniversary celebrations of St Peter's Church, Upper Riccarton, were continued last evening, when a high tea was held. The vicar, the Rev H. T. York, presided, and there was a large attendance of past and present parishioners. In proposing the toast of “ The Parish,” Mr J. E. Fleming said that he had no recollections of the early days, but during the twelve years he had been in the parish he had witnessed the completion of the church. He was certain that under the care of the present vicar the church would continue to progress. Mr Albert Fleming, in responding,

| said that he had taken part in many functions in connection with the Church of St Peter’s. A wonderful heritage had been handed down, and they had tried to follow. In conclusion he asked the younger generation to do their best for the parish in the years to come. Colonel J. Studholme proposed the toast of the “ Old Parishioners.” Sir William Nosworthy, responding, said that he hoped to see the day when religious teaching would again take place in the schools. The present church was a credit to the district and he was sure that the pioneers, were they there, would appreciate the work that was being done. The toast of “ The Clergy ” was proposed by Mr J. Hanson and responded to bv the vicar and the Venerable { Archdeacon York. Several musical items were given during the evening. *
