FREE LABOUR.

Dismissal From Tramways Demanded. The Canterbury Unemployed Workers’ Association has issued the following statement setting out its attitude in connection with the Tramway Board election : “ The Canterbury Unemployed Workers’ Association identifies itself with the working class will to remove from office the present Tramway Board, and for the purpose of assisting in this intention and of placing its views before the public it makes application to the organisations of the opposition candidates for opportunities for its speakers to appear on their platforms. “ A pledge is being submitted to candidates, which, if they sign, states that they make dismissal of the free labour workers engaged at the time of the strike their business, and if they find on taking office that they cannot accomplish this thev will be recalled by these who elect them. “On a number of relief work jobs where Labour candidates have addressed the men this pledge has been submitted to them, and in the case of one or two they have signified their willingness to give such a pledge.”
