CRITICISM OF CODES.
Chamber of Commerce Will Demand Changes: WASHINGTON November 19. The United States Chamber of Commerce, which attacked President Roosevelt's monetary policy yesterday, followed it up to-day by the announcement that it had appointed a committee to investigate the National Recovery Act with the idea of demanding radical changes in compulsory codes. Mr Silas Strawn, one of the committee. declared that the Government could not compel business men to obey the “ unworkable and impossible ” features of the codes. In the meantime, according to word from Warm Springs, Mr Roosevelt has no intention at present of modifying his gold buying policy, in spite of the Chamber’s criticism. It was indicated that he would continue to raise the gold price from time to time, although he would attempt to avoid sharp fluctuations in exchange.
